Multi-Slice CT Scanners

چکیده

In the second half of 1998, four manufacturers (GE, Siemens, Toshiba and Picker, now Philips) extended this concept by launching multi-slice CT scanners. All were 3rd generation helical scanners, with low voltage slip rings, capable of acquiring four CT slices in one x-ray tube rotation (see Fig. 1). Additional four-slice models have been introduced by Toshiba and GE. Some basic specifications of the systems currently available are shown in Table 1.

Evaluation of MRI-based Polymer Gel Dosimetry for Measurement of CT Dose Index (CTDI) on 64 slices CT Scanners

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) has numerous applications in clinical procedures but its main problem is its high radiation dose to the patients compared to other imaging modalities using x-ray. CT delivers approximately high doses to the nearby tissues due to the scattering effect, fan beam (beam divergence) and limited collimator efficiency. The radiation dose from multi-slice scanners...

Radiation dose issues in multi-slice CT scanning ImPACT

Multi-slice or multi-detector row CT scanners, capable of imaging four simultaneous, parallel slices in a single rotation, were first introduced in 1998. Since then, scanners with 6, 8, 10 and 16 slice capabilities have become available and have made a marked impact on the role of CT in the diagnostic radiology department. Most recently 32, 40 and 64 slice scanners have been announced and the t...

Calculation of the Scattered Radiation Profile in 64 Slice CT Scanners Using Experimental Measurement

Introduction: One of the most important parameters in x-ray CT imaging is the noise induced by detected scattered radiation. The detected scattered radiation is completely dependent on the scanner geometry as well as size, shape and material of the scanned object. The magnitude and spatial distribution of the scattered radiation in x-ray CT should be quantified for development of robust scatter...

Reducing radiation doses in female breast and lung during CT examinations of thorax: A new technique in two scanners

Background: Chest CT is a commonly used examination for the diagnosis of lung diseases, but a breast within the scanned field is nearly never the organ of interest. Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the female breast and lung doses using split and standard protocols in chest CT scanning.Materials and Methods: The sliced chest and breast female phantoms were used. CT exams were p...

Dose Reduction Methods in Chest Computed Tomography

Introduction: Computed tomography is one of the most powerful tools for investigating thorax disease, because it shows progression of lung disease much clearer than chest radiography. Technical advances in CT scanners have led to some abilities for CT scanners such as coverage of larger volume, lower noise and ability for acquiring image in one respiratory phase. However, this will be accompani...
